Historical Image Manipulations....

Lately I have been getting interested in the history of photographic manipulation, it seems that it has been around ever since the beginnings of photography. It really makes me question the idea of a photograph as a historical document.

In this newspaper photograph the liquor bottles were edited out of the scene of German and Russian leaders meeting at the onset of WWII. The Soviet newspaper got rid of the bottles, but the other photograph ran in its original form in a German newspaper.

I'll be posting some more images like this as I continue to find them.

  1. LOL they changed the facial expressions on the guys too. The USSR always did crap like this with their photographs... it is a known fact that when they wanted to erase and individual from history they would edit him out of pictures

  14. the soviets were notorious for this. Especially when it came to getting rid of those who had been purged.
