This famous image from the Kent State shooting was also the victim of photo manipulation. I mean I guess people might have thought that she was screaming because of that pole coming out of her head...glad they cleared that up for us. The edited version appeared in Life Magazine.
Does this really count as manipulation? Does it change reality, does it change anything significant in the image? Does it improve the image? I have been struggling with questions like this lately.
why would they do that??
ReplyDeleteWell, some people really might think the girl really was impaled by that pole.
ReplyDeleteIf the purpose was to demonize the shooter, then no need to edit it. But, if people really thought the shooter was throwing spears around, then massive backlash will happen.
Then again, it's not THAT noticable....
I didn't know about the manipulation in that photo. It is an odd one, but I can see why they did it.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of the day it shows extremely emotion... and they cleaned it up so it didnt look like that?.. lol.. but yeah, emotional pic and crazy lookin pic, a moment of time forever saved.
ReplyDeletenever seen this before =]
I think it does, only because photo manip, is taking a photo and editing it to match what your goals are.
ReplyDeleteGold. Excellent find my friend. It doesn't seem to change the meaning or context of the photo, though. Just makes it look less shitty, moar pro.
ReplyDeleteI'm okay with this one.
nice, good stuff!
ReplyDeleteExactly, Why they faked the pic? I neither watch any reason for.
ReplyDeleteha. these are very interesting. keep delivering.
ReplyDeletewhoa, that's amazing... where do you find these?
ReplyDeletewhy would they do that :I
ReplyDeletelol they should've left it the original.
ReplyDeleteHAHAH. <3 good post! and they definetly should have left the original!
ReplyDeleteodd... but at least nothing important was changed
ReplyDeletewow amazing
ReplyDeletegood stuff, it really does look like the pole is going through her head lol
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call this manipulation as nothing important was changed.
ReplyDeleteReally, really strange, i mean it doesnt surprise me too much considering its from Life but still, very conmfusing
ReplyDeleteI'd say it counts
ReplyDeleteHehe they used it for a good thing for once!
ReplyDeleteMesty =)

ReplyDeletestrange :P
ReplyDeletewow, it's a vintage shoop
ReplyDeletewhen are you gonna post the next picture?
ReplyDeleteRemoving the pole just kind of 'cleaned' the image up. Still a very strong picture.
ReplyDeleteI didn't notice it until it was pointed out. It's definitely manipulation but to what end?
